Our ‘Smash Eurocentric beauty standards’ pin says it all. Body image & our sense of identity are influenced by beauty & body standards we see around us. These ‘ideals’ are predominantly pushed onto women, through the media & then culture, leaving many women with a sense that they are not good enough & need to change the way they look. Eurocentric beauty standards – light skin & European features are one of these beauty ‘ideals’, that we see so often, which exclude so many, as well as being young, thin, cis-gendered & able-bodied. These are the standards which are forced upon us daily and which become the conditions of our worth. Having such a narrow representation of beauty is harmful to all women. There is a huge pressure, & conforming to all these standards needed to be acceptable is near impossible for most. These pressures can pit women against each other. Instead of comparing and competing, let’s embrace each other’s uniqueness, smash Eurocentric beauty standards, oh yeah, and patriarchy too whilst we’re at it.
